Opinions on Appcelerator?

Has anyone experimented with Appcelerator?   The idea of creating an application once using HTML/Javascript/PHP and then deploying it easily to Android and iPhone is appealing.  However I'm not find it as easy as I expected. Mainly in the debugging process when JQuery events don't fire or debugging API calls..
