NFC for Android 2.3 OS

Thanks to Android 2.3 OS the concept of paying bills via mobile phone will become reality soon.  According to Eric Schmidt,  Android 2.0 will support the so called Near Field Communication (NFC) technology. It will allow two devices to exchange data from each other kept at maximum 4 inches apart by transmitting signals. Mobile phones including NFC chips will swap data in real time and it is supposed that very soon we won’t need to carry credit cards. Is Google ready to come up with corresponding software for payment via mobile phones or it will still prefer partnership with credit card companies instead?
