Dual-core processor for Android Smartphones

Broadcom, the great technology innovator is working on a dual-core processor for smartphones. It will give an opportunity to phone manufacturers to make Android-based handsets with integrated Wi-Fi hotspots. The chip is made for mass-market phones for a low price.
The first phone with the processor is going to be released in the first quarter of 2011.
The company didn’t give any details about the smartphones’ exact price; however it stated that they will be affordable.
In addition to integrated Wi-Fi hotspots, smartphones based on this processor can be supplied with multi-touch screens, 5-megapixel cameras and HSDPA at 7.2M bps. Also, they will be able to support two SIM cards usage that gains popularity in some countries.
The lower-cost smartphones has already influenced the increase of Android popularity, according to Francisco Jeronimo, research manager at IDC. This tendency towards cheaper smartphones is going to continue in 2011, and Android-based devices will participate a lot in that, Jeronimo stated.
