According to market researcher Strategy Analyst – in the last quarter of 2010 Android tablets took over 22 % of global tablet shipments. In Q3 that number was only 2.3%. At the same time Apple lost in market share about 21% - in Q3 it occupied 96% of the market, while in Q4 – already 75%.

Apple shipped over 14 million tablets in fourth quarter of 2010 and Android - 2.1 million units.  In previous quarter that number was only 100.000. Samsung took the biggest part in that success as sold over 2 million Galaxy tabs during last two months.

Neil Mawston, director at Strategy Analyst, said that tablet makers prefer Android because of its perceived low cost and an accompanying range of compelling media services such as YouTube and Google Maps.

Another market research company ISuppli predicts that 57 million tablets will be sold in 2011 and more than 171 million in 2014.
