GDG Chicago Android

Google Developers Group

Hello all.

I'm very new to programming in general (no professional experience) and very very new to Android development.

I just found out that my contract with T-Mobile has expired, which gives me a great opportunity to get an Android phone.

Android phones available from T-Mobile:

Motorla CLIQ and CLIQ XT
myTouch 3G
Samsung Behold

So I'm looking for advice on which Android phone to get. Switching to Verizon for the Droid is tempting, but I'd rather stay with T-Mobile to get some healthy discounts and to keep my already lengthy time of service with them intact.

Any comments on Verizon versus T-Mobile versus other carriers for call quality with Android ? Does Android even effect calls at all ?

Any comments on "real web browsing" ? Of the T-Mobile devices above, only the Samsung Behold II offers it.

Touch versus full QWERTY ?

MOTOBLUR ?

Tethering ?

Any and all comments are appreciated :-)

from a previous post. great info !!!
Don't forget the Nexus One. This model I believe has the fastest hardware, also it is on T-Mobile. If I were you, I would go with this phone because it is the highest performance. i just ordered a Motorola droid because i am on Verizon, also looking for a physical keayboard and they are buy one get one free right now (my mom ends up with a smart phone, we will see if she can figure it out!). The Nexus One is coming to verizon eventually.
Hi Calvin,

In my opinion the only contenders are Nexus One and DROID, here is the comparison:

I use DROID and I think it is one awesome phone, superior in many ways to my previous iPhone.
I heard rumors that Nexus One is coming to Verizon on March 23, yes, TOMORROW, check their websites if I was right.

I actually just got off the phone with Verizon. It is most likely that the Nexus One will NOT be coming out in the next 30 days. she said they keep changing the date. they will probably come out with it 30 days after I activate my droid...
Forgot about the Nexus One. Seems like they updated androidphones.com since just last night with more phones.

It's looking like the Droid may be the winner here. Virtual and QWERTY keyboard, and buy one get one. One to use, one to play and develop with. Can't beat that.
Just to give a heads-up to all MOTO DROID users. It is one of the top 20 phones smartphones with high radiation levels according to CNET REVIEW.

So use a handsfree headset with MOTO DROID.
